Prologue[/b]
The city was ablaze with lights and the sound of the night life. The luminescent moon hung high in the sheet of black they call a sky. There was the familiar sound of a helicopter, which was flying across the sky. On the ground the sound of feet running across the pavement, within the dark, shadowy alleyways; all of these signs signified a chase.
“Come on! We have to get out of here!” yelled a person.
The person was unmistakably under 20, at least 13, male, well-built, and clever. The kid knew his way around the horrid city. In the faint light, the helicopter could make out that he had spiked platinum blonde hair and hazel-gold eyes. Following behind him were seven other kids; however they were hard to identify in the sheer darkness.
Inside the helicopter, a man with untamed dark brown hair, a mustache that had been shaven only a few days ago, and dark brown eyes was sitting thinking about how such juveniles could have entered a high security museum.
“Status report on the thieves,” he said.
“Well sir, we found them and they are on the run, however we lost track of one,” replied the captain.
“Which one did you lose track?” he asked.
His eyes held this look of disbelief, shock, and minor irritation. He wanted these thieves now; they had stolen an important cursed artifact that could help the world understand all of the paranormal activity. Yet somehow, thieves….no juveniles managed to break into a museum and then escape without setting the alarm off. The alarm went off shortly after they got outside, the owner of the museum set it off. This brought him to the scene, Detective Jonathan Sealer, the best detective in the whole city of Los Angeles, California. He knew a lot of people who could have stolen the item, but he never suspected juveniles….never.
“We lost a girl sir. We couldn’t describe her even if we tried, she made sure she was never seen,” the captain reported.
Detective Sealer cursed silently. He knew of one juvenile girl that always caused trouble. She was the leader of the gang, who called themselves Demon Dragons. The girl was clever, she knew her way around and she even knew how to escape the cops. The detective always tried to catch her if a crime involved that gang, but if he gets close he loses the trail for the longest time, till another related crime occurred.
The juveniles who were being chased down kept running until they reached a cliff face, that wasn’t well known and were stuck in a dead end. The platinum haired boy turned around and cursed as the helicopter arrived right above them.
“Where are you Vassal?” he asked.
The detective stood outside the copter door and held a megaphone in his hand.
“Give it up! You are trapped! Surrender peacefully now or you will receive worse punishment then JV,” he said.
The boy looked back to see the cliff, which looked like an abyss if he didn’t know better. He knew they were all cornered. He looked up with his hazel-gold eyes and stared right into the detective’s eyes. Then he slowly began to back towards the cliff.
The detective blinked in total surprise. The kid was going to jump off the cliff in order to avoid arrest. Something wasn’t right about that…why would the kid do something like that? Then he got a theory…maybe someone was going to attack the chopper. It was possible but who would do something like that? That escaped his thought and mind at the moment and he had much more important things to do. Before he could even react to the kids on the ground there was a sudden thump. It sounded like it came from on top the copter near the rotor blades.
Outside there stood a girl on top of the copter. She just appeared out no where…from the hidden land of the sky. Her eyes were a luminescent red, like the moon, and her hair was blowing back in the wind generated from the downdraft of the copter. The darkness hid her facial expression, but the faint light showed a look of determination and fearlessness. She knew what she had to do and wasn’t going to let anything atop her from completing her objective. Raising her right arm into the sky, something underneath the sleeve of her trench coat began to glow an eerie, dark gray. It was hard to tell what the thing looked like but the shape of it seemed to be that of a number.
The moon suddenly seemed to pulse. As the invisible pulses traveled across the sky, everything began to slow down. To normal people everything would continue at the same speed it always had, however to the girl time, the blades of the rotor, everything would be stopped. When she knew that everything had stopped, she placed her arm back by her side. She looked at the pitiful fools inside the copter, especially the detective.
“Tonight you stop interfering with us detective…forever…” she said with a dark tone.
Facing back to where the rotor blades where, she walked up to them, the metal on the bottom of her black leather combat boots clanking…metal against metal. She pulled out her right hand from its shelter; it was covered with a black leather fingerless glove. Her hand looked like any normal hand, but then the nails grew, changing into deadly claws. The girl then raised her hand and swiped at the blades, which were completely dismantled them from their hinges. She then jumped off the helicopter and headed for her gang, who were also her friends. As this happened the time field that was frozen immediately began to resume its natural course.
The detective stood up as soon as he noticed the leather trench coat in front of the copter’s glass. He automatically knew that is was her, the one they called Darkness, the Black Burst Vassal Dragon. So now he knew that she was the one who planned this, the one who stole the artifact. He was about to tell the captain to land when he noticed that the rotor blades were falling into the city below. His mouth immediately dropped, she had destroyed what made it possible for the helicopter to fly. Detective Sealer looked right into Darkness’ eyes and could tell she was smirking.
“This is the End for you Detective Jonathan Sealer, goodbye. It has been fun but now this ends…forever,” Darkness said mentally to him.
Darkness landed by her friends as the helicopter then exploded into a burst of flames, like a miniature supernova. However the explosion’s waves spread towards them all and knocked most of them over, but then there was a scream. She turned around to see the artifact along with her best friend, the platinum blonde, go flying over the edge. She ran and just managed to grab his hand, but he was hanging dangerously high above the city; if he let go he was a goner for sure.
“Vassal…you have to get out of here. Please let me go,” he said.
“No, I won’t let you go Divine,” Vassal said.
Divine just looked into Vassal’s eyes. He knew she wouldn’t let go of him no matter how hard he pleaded her to let go. So he decided what he would do, no matter what the costs. Then there was a flash of lightning in the sky, signaling a storm. He looked at the fate that lay before him and then back at his best friend’s eyes.
“Goodbye my friend,” he whispered, the cursed item holding them both.
With the next flash of lightning, he was gone. Vassal blinked in shock and stood up, her heart hurting. She couldn’t believe he did that, what made him do that? Then the sound of sirens came along the cliff, as rain began to pour.
“Freeze!!!” the cops said.
With her head hanging low, Vassal turned around. The police were confused at her actions but slowly came forward. Then as lightning hit a building in the background, she roared the loss of her friend with fire spreading from her like a tidal wave. The cliff was captured in the mass of fire and that could be seen was the rising smoke and fire. The rest of the kids stood in awe, surprised at how their leader was acting.
“Come on…let’s go,” she said.
As they all walked away, all that was left from the explosion of fire was burnt trees and minor flames. The item was in her hands, close to her chest. She would never forget his sacrifice, never. In the distance the moon seemed to shine on where he fell, as if also grieving the loss of a friend.
